Quack arrested after killing a pregnant housewife in Nadia

Subrata Sarkar, Majhdia, Nadia: A quack who had been deported from Jassore in Bangladesh to Nadia in India in 1981 and now an Indian citizen, was arrested after killing a pregnant housewife during treatment-process for abortion. It happened at Majdia under Krishnaganj police station in Nadia on Tuesday and he was produced in Krishnanagar Court on Wednesday, a police sources said.

According to local sources a 5 month pregnant housewife Aparna Majumder (35) went to the Chamber of Sushant Poddar near Majdia Railway Station on Monday. The quack, a resident of Majdia Dobilee, assured her to arrange for her abortion in a low-cost.

He prescribed her some medicines that day. Aparna wanted to abort as she already was the mother of 2 children now. The two sons are Abhay (8) and Abhra (3).

After taking the medicines, she was attacked with high fever, vomit and pain. Next day she came to the chamber of the doctor with her husband Aniruddha.

Sources said that the quack pushed her two injections. Then Sushanta told them to back home without tension and all would become normal.

He also claimed, he had been doing abortion since 1992 after getting the concerned licence from Government. ” I have the licence of Medical Termination of Pregnancy,” he said.

However, they returned home. But after a while she got critical. Aniruddha contacted the quack over phone. He advised him to take Aparna to hospital. They rushed to Krishnaganj Rural Hospital. But doctor declared her brought dead there.

The quack meanwhile had reached their home. Amid a clamour, the quack tried to manage the situation with money.

Madhumita Majumder, a family member of Aniruddha said,” The quack had approached to pay rupees 4 lakh to manage the situation and the family was agreed.”

But someone had informed police for which he was arrested. Before appearing of cops, the locals allegedly bet up a little.

Aniruddha works in Andhra Pradesh. Hearing the illness he came home on Tuesday. He said,” I had told her to go to a good doctor but she paid no importance.”

While the husband of the  deceased would know the matter of abortion, her mother in law Anima Majumder was unaware about it.
