Sting Newz Service: Nadia police recovered 700 bottles of Phensedyl from Aranghata dakshin area under Dhantala police station in Nadia district at about 1:30 a.m. on Thursday and arrested a man and his son, a police sources said.
The man & his son were identified as Swapan Saha (50) and Mithun Saha (26), the residents of Aranghata village under same police station area. Both were produced before court on Thursday. Father Swapan Saha was taken to 5 days police custody and his son was sent to judicial custody for 14 days.
On a tip off, Nadia’s Dhantala police raided a abandoned house at Aranghata Dakshin village and arrested the duo at about 1:30 a,m. At that time they were bagging the Phensedyl. Police recovered 700 bottles from them.
In an interrogation by the police, the duo said that they buy it at Rs. 140 per bottle and sell it at Rs. 175 per bottle. They smuggled these to Bangladesh.
It is reported that Nadia’s Dhantala police recovered 100 bottles of Phensedyl from Hossainpur area under Dhantala police station in Nadia district at about 9:30 pm. on 13 September, 2018 and arrested one Rafa Mondal, a resident of Rajapur village under same police station.
There are 21 police stations in the district, out of them 9 police stations having Indo-Bangladesh Border which are entry point of Phensedyl. These are Krishnaganj, Hanskhali, Tehatta, Karimpur, Murutia, Hogolberia, Thanarpara, Chapra and Dhantala.
Sources said, though Bangladesh is not a drug producing country , more than 50% crimes in the country are somehow linked to Drug. Phensedyl is an Indian drug. It has a great demand in Bangladesh. Sources have indicated rackets of drug peddlers in Bangladesh who fulfill their clients demand through door-to-door delivery. Private Bank officials, House wives and young boys and girls are in their client list. They get order through phone call everyday and get paid weekly basis.
Phensedyl comes on the Indian market in 50ml and 100ml bottle. The smugglers buy it from Indian market and smuggle to Bangladesh and sell there in 4-10 times higher. Price is variable place to place and depends on buyer’s profile.
The smugglers are engaging underaged boys, youths, students and women play the chief role to smuggle Phensedyl to Bangladesh.
A smuggler on anonymity said, “Minors are used in this business because they can easily be freed. Police or BSF would be more sympathetic to them . Another point is, many of those minors are drug-addicted and belong to unprivileged family. They don’t have enough financial support to pay for those expensive drugs. Through smuggling they not only earn but also get a scope to continue the drugs.”
