Sting Newz Service: A retired Professor allegedly committed suicide by jumping to the ground from the Kalyani rail bridge in Nadia on Thursday morning. A police sources said that he jumped due to depression and the body was sent for autopsy. The height of the bridge from the ground is around 40 feet.
It was around 11 am. According to a local sources, an aged person stopped his four wheeler on the bridge and came out. He then suddenly jumped from the bridge.
There are rail lines below the bridge and a big work site cum godown of a construction company along it. Police got the information and rushed the spot. They rescued the injured man from the pool of blood and sent to Kalyani JNM Hospital. But physician declared him brought dead. The blood stains were scattered around the spot.
He was identified as Kamal Kumar Roy (65), a retired Professor of Katwa college in Burdwan. He had been a resident of Kalyani B-12 but recently was staying in a flat at B-7 of town Kalyani.
According to Kalyani police sources, he was depressed following the death of his sister. ” We have talked to his family members and prima facie, it revealed that he was depressed for the death of his sister and that was why he committed suicide by jumping from the Kalyani bridge,” a police officer said.
According to local sources, his sister died from cancer.
