Sting Newz Service: In a significant crackdown on cross-border drug smuggling, Hogolberia Police under Krishnagar police district in Nadia district seized 800 bottles of Phensedyl late Saturday night during a raid in Namopara, a village close to the Indo-Bangladesh border. One suspect has been arrested, while several others managed to flee.

The arrested individual has been identified as Dhiraj Mondal, a resident of the Hogolberia area.

Acting on specific intelligence inputs, a team led by Officer-in-Charge Dipankar Mondal launched the operation around 10:45 p.m. “It was a high-risk operation,” OC Mondal told Sting Newz. “The smugglers were planning to transport the bottles to Bangladesh. There were around six to seven of them, carrying sacks filled with Phensedyl on their heads. We managed to catch one of them, but the rest escaped in the dark.”

Following his arrest, Dhiraj Mondal was produced before the Tehatta court on Sunday.

Authorities believe the smugglers are part of a larger network operating along the international border. An investigation is underway to trace others involved.
