Sting Newz, Krishnagar: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Centre of Excellence, Bhubaneswar, successfully conducted the 2nd Consultative Meeting on Bengali (Secondary Stage) on 19th July 2025 at Krishnagar Public School, West Bengal. The event was a part of the series of review meetings being conducted by the Board before finalizing it’s two-day Capacity Building Programme on Bengali. It is noteworthy that after developing CBP manual for various subjects and other languages including English and Hindi, it is the first time that the Board has taken the initiative to develop training manual for Bengali.

This significant initiative aligns with the recommendations of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which places emphasis on multilingualism, the use of the mother tongue as the medium of instruction up to Grade 5, and the need for continuous professional development of teachers.

The meeting brought together 30 nominated teachers from CBSE-affiliated schools in the region to critically review and discuss the Day 1 of the Training M anual, handouts, and presentations developed by CBSE for the new Bengali CBP for the teachers teaching secondary level. Teachers were divided into four collaborative groups for in-depth discussions and later presented their insights and recommendations, which will be compiled into a report for submission to the Board.

While Mr. T. Mate, Head, CBSE COE, Bhubaneswar, who was expected to remain present for the session, could not attend the event due to health reasons, he extended his warm wishes and expressed his deep appreciation for the collaborative spirit of the participants and organisers.

The day held special significance as it coincided with the 162nd birth anniversary of Dwijendralal Roy, the legendary Bengali poet, playwright and lyricist, revered as the cultural bard of Krishnagar. The program began with Director Mr. Amitava Guha and Principal, Dr. Sankar Prasad Dutta paying homage by garlanding the poets portray. The students of Krishnagar Public School then presented their heartfelt tribute by their soulful renditions of his timeless compositions, and a graceful dance performance on the iconic ‘Dhono Dhanye Pushpe Bhora’.

Principal Dr. Sankar Prasad Dutta, who underlined the importance of nurturing the Bengali language as a bridge between heritage and modernity highlighting the need for celebrating Bengali language and literature.

The training programme and the consultative review reaffirmed CBSE’s commitment to building inclusive, culturally-rooted and technologically forward learning environments, where regional languages including Bengali are given their rightful place in national and global educational discourse.
