Samiran Biswas, Sting Newz, Tehatta: A new controversy has erupted in Dighalkandi village of Karimpur Block–2 in Nadia district over the streetlight project. On Monday night, posters appeared in Booth 77 and 78 claiming that 85 streetlights had been “constructed” in each booth at a cost of ₹2 lakh. The claim immediately triggered questions and tension among local residents.
The elected BJP member from the village alleged that development works in their area are being deliberately stalled because they belong to the BJP. According to them, no streetlights have actually been installed, yet posters have been put up falsely declaring the work as completed. The BJP member and her husband said they would take the matter to the Gram Panchayat and Block Office, and if needed, launch a larger movement.
Local BJP leaders further alleged that massive corruption has taken place in the streetlight project under the Dighalkandi Gram Panchayat. They claim that posters were put up to mislead the public.
