Arnab Majumder, Sting Newz, Nadia: A major sensation spread across Nabadweep after a large number of voter ID cards were recovered from an abandoned area near Pratappanagar Hospital Road. Police rushed to the spot and have begun verifying the authenticity of the cards.
According to locals, the names and addresses printed on the recovered cards match those of residents in the area. However, the individuals concerned claim that their original voter IDs are safely at home. This has triggered serious questions about how duplicate or counterfeit cards bear ing the same details ended up on the roadside

The incident has sparked political tension. The BJP alleged that they had already warned of possible irregularities in the SIR-like atmosphere, and this recovery is “proof” of their claims. They accused the Trinamool Congress of resorting to malpractice out of fear.
However, Jhontulal Das, Councillor of Ward 5 of Nabadweep Municipality, dismissed the allegations. He claimed the ruling party had no involvement and labelled the incident a “BJP conspiracy.” Das has also demanded a full investigation by the Election Commission.
The recovery of such sensitive electoral documents in a busy area like Hospital Road has created concern among the public. Who dumped these cards, and with what intention, remains unknown. Police from Nabadweep police station have initiated a detailed probe into the matter.
