STING NEWZ/NADIA: A new chapter in the field of education was marked at Bahirgachhi village under Nakashipara block of Nadia district with the grand inauguration of the new campus of Susmita Memorial Heritage Academy, an English-medium school. The two-day inaugural programme, held on Friday and Saturday, was celebrated in a festive atmosphere with cultural performances, students’ presentations and the presence of several distinguished guests.

The formal inauguration of the new campus was conducted by Swami Mantrajnanandaji Maharaj of Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math, by cutting the ribbon. The programme also included the hoisting of the National Flag and the institutional flag, lighting of the ceremonial lamp, and paying floral tributes to the portrait of the late Susmita Bhattacharyya.

On Friday, the inaugural ceremony was graced by Justice Arindam Mukherjee of the Calcutta High Court as the chief guest. Several eminent personalities from the Nadia district administration were also present. On Saturday, the event was further dignified by the presence of State Minister Ujjal Biswas, MLA Bimalendu Singh Roy, MLA Kallol Khan, along with many other notable guests.

According to the school authorities, the inauguration of the new campus symbolises a “new beginning.” Founder Secretary Dr Shankhajit Bhattacharyya stated that the modern infrastructure, improved classrooms and student-friendly environment of the new campus will significantly enhance the quality of education offered by the academy. He also informed that there are plans to gradually introduce all streams up to Class XII in the future.

School Principal Salma Khatun said, “We are committed to providing quality education. Our goal is to ensure international-standard education even in a remote rural area.”

The inauguration turned Bahirgachhi village into a hub of celebration and learning. Both evenings featured vibrant cultural programmes by popular artists. Renowned singer Raghav Chatterjee performed on Friday, while Somlata Acharyya Chowdhury enthralled the audience on Saturday.

It is noteworthy that the English-medium school has been operating since 2020 from a building of the Susmita Memorial Philanthropic Trust. At present, more than 200 students are enrolled. From the coming academic session, the school will be fully shifted to the new campus, where classes up to Class VIII will initially be conducted. The new campus has been developed on nearly four acres of land, while an additional six acres have already been kept ready for future expansion, should the need arise, as informed by Dr Bhattacharyya.

Justice Arindam Mukherjee praised the initiative and congratulated the institution for establishing a high-quality English-medium school in a remote village like Bahirgachhi. He remarked that such efforts are extremely important for the future of rural education in Bengal.

Sources revealed that Susmita Memorial Heritage Academy was established in memory of Susmita Bhattacharyya, the sister and childhood companion of Dr Shankhajit Bhattacharyya, a resident of Nakashipara, who passed away at the young age of 13 after prolonged illness. To honour her memory, another educational institution—Susmita College of Education—has also been established.
