Sting Newz, Kaliganj/Nadia: On a calm Saturday morning, optimism stirred in Debagram as a team led by Nadia District Magistrate Aneesh Dasgupta walked through a stretch of open land beside the bustling Kisan Mandi. The spot, seemingly ordinary to passersby, could soon become the foundation of a long-awaited English Medium Model School- a project that local residents believe will shape the future of generations to come.
The District Magistrate was joined by Additional District Magistrate (LR) Nripendra Singh, MLA Alifa Ahmed, senior district officials, and panchayat representatives- each step they took reflecting the administration’s renewed commitment to improving Kaliganj’s educational landscape.
The journey to this moment, however, has not been simple.
The project first began at Mirabazar Circus Maidan, but concerns over the site being classified as Waqf property sparked objections from local groups. The plan had to be paused, leaving many disheartened. But determination prevailed. MLA Alifa Ahmed, after discussions with the administration, identified a government-owned land near the Kisan Mandi- a space more suited for the dream school. Her proposal was swiftly placed before officials, and the DM’s visit now marks the start of a fresh beginning.
Along their inspection trail, the team also explored other development sites- Plassey Sports Complex, Plassey Museum & Park, Plassey Girls’ School, and the heritage-rich Plassey Cottage. With every stop, a broader narrative unfolded- one that goes beyond a single school and focuses on transforming Kaliganj into a hub of education, sports and tourism.
