Sting Newz service: A minor girl jumped into a river to save her sister from drowning, but in vain and both were drowned. The bodies were recovered later on. It happened at Hanspukur under Bamongola police station limits in Malda on Wednesday afternoon, a police sources said.
They both came to a trip to the home of their elder sister. However, the area turned into a melancholy following the mishap.
The two sisters, Paromita Mandal (15 ) and Ankita Mondal (8 ) came to the home of their elder sister to enjoy Durga Puja Festival. Ankita was a class 3 student. Their father Rui Das Mondal is a day- labourer and resides at Nandinidaha in Bamangola in Malda.
However, the victims duo went to river Hariya that floats along the home of their elder sister. Ankita went down to take bath in the river. But Paramita was sitting on bank. Suddenly Paramita found her to drown. She dived into the river to rescue her sister. But both drowned away. The corpses were recovered a few hours later.
The bodies were sent to Malda Medical Hospital for autopsy.
